JAB WE MET

When you have completed 26 seasons in life, you ought to see different complexions of life especially in the "road to love". Few of them have been due to the evergreen world of Bollywood, and thanks to it, we got to here and there find a little more freshness. Which is why I am penning this review.

To me, Imtiaz Ali has given a new blend to the ever-repeated saga of Bollywood romance. JAB WE MET is not something that we haven’t seen or come across in life; it has shades of PYAR TO HONA HI THA, DDLJ, and various other Bollywood biggies- but what sets it apart than?

I would say the characters of Kareena and Shahid and wonderful screenplay. As, if Imtiaz knew where, when and which frames are be exactly inserted. So, it says a lot about the research on the project.

I am not narrating the story here; it’s Shahid who has the duty of safely dropping Kareena back home to Bhatinda for everything except love. Kareena bubbly and effervescent, doesn’t mince words and could be heard saying “main apni favorite hoon’ has a boyfriend Tarun Arora.

During this adventure to Bhatinda, Shahid’s life changes and he develops a soft corner for Kareena while Kareena’s life changes too. What happens finally is something you got to pay some 180 bucks and watch.

Shahid and Kareena had appeared before in FIDA, and fans were disappointed to find their chemistry cold. It becomes tough in two accounts for when we have a competitor like John-Bipasha scoring hits as couple, and you obviously know that your onscreen chemistry is somehow not better as your off-screen chemistry. Here, Kareena and Shahid both performed exceptionally well.

To me Kareena has always been a little overacted actress, and so if you find her a little more overacting, just ignore it. It’s much better than MAIN PREM KI DIWANI HOON. She was good in her dialogue delivery and very natural.

A scene which stands out is when she pushes Shahid to jump to the water. I found it so natural and spontaneous.

Shahid has a mixed bag of fortune in Bollywood; he started with a bang in ISHQ VISHK and than a couple of semi-flops. The reason is not that he is a one-time show, but he hasn’t chosen roles that could justice to his character.

Can you tell me what was he doing in DEEWANE HUE PAGAL? Similar lines of Tusshar Kapoor, Shahid struggles to make a movie run on his own. It is than he needs someone to support him.

JAB WE MET is such a refreshing change for Shahid and his fans. Not only he essays the character well, he shows a great deal of maturity too under that boyish charm.

Shahid is an excellent dancer and Pritam Chakraborty’s music goes well with Shahid and Kareena.

All said and done, will this movie work? It should run for two mainly reasons- I don’t believe cheap publicity works, but in India when we see a couple coming to a coffee show holding hands together and cajoling each other, and the next time they break up- the fans would love to pay to watch them.

I was observing Shahid and Karenna’s lip kiss together and I found to be very natural and spontaneous. They made a good pair. The second reason is Bollywood hasn’t seen a real romantic love journey for sometimes now.

The last if I remember was DIL CHAHTA HAI. This movie has freshness and dealt very differently. Also, the timing of the movie was perfect. With biggies like OM SHANTI OM and SAAWARIYA releasing during Diwali, JAB WE MET should be in a firm position. I see a good future of this movie. Shan has again sung something similar in the lines of TANHA dil.

I give it a 4 star out of 5 only for its spontaneity, freshness and Shahid-Kareena. Go watch it!
